PLAN
The purpose
of
grade 10
PLAN in Chicago Public Schools
is to provide
baseline information at 10th grade about student readiness for college and to assist in
educational and career planning. It is also a predictor of how students will perform on the ACT
portion of the PSAE in grade 11.
Additionally,
PLAN gains are a
representation of student growth. As such,
PLAN
reading and math gains
are calculated
into each school’s CPS Performance Policy score, which is used to determine Probation
Status.
S
tudent growth
and trend metrics are also used to inform the first step of the Principal Evaluation
process.
English
Language Learners (ELLs) and PLAN
All ELL students
in program year 5 and above are required to participate in PLAN testing. Students in
program year 0 are exempt from PLAN testing. Students in program year 1-4 are able to participate
at the discretion of the school. Accommodations are available.
The Office of Language and Culture Education
recommends that students who have an ACCESS proficiency level of 3.5 or above
participate. Students with a proficiency level below 3.5 may participate at school
discretion.
Available
Accommodations
The following
accommodations are available for students with testing accommodations specified in their IEP:
extended time, large print test format, Braille, CD, audiocassette, and Reader’s
Script.
The following
accommodations are available for ELL students on the basis of their ELL status: extended time, CD,
audiocassette, Reader’s Script, and use of a translator to translate instructions into the student’s
native language (test questions or answers
cannot
be translated as an accommodation). Please note that all accommodations materials are
only available in English – they have not been translated into other languages.
Please note that students testing with accommodations must test in separate rooms
from students participating in standard-time testing.

materials immediately upon receipt.
• Store all test materials in
a locked room or cabinet.
• Limit access to the test
supervisor and/or school administrator.
• Give materials to room
supervisors personally rather than leave in an unattended room for pick up.
