CPS Board policy requires that in order for elementary students taking an approved algebra course to obtain credit or placement in high school, they must pass the district-wide Algebra Exit Exam.  CPS Students currently enrolled in an Algebra course at a non-Office of Mathematics approved school are not eligible to take the Algebra Exit Exam at any time. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the approval process, school eligibility, or the board policy regarding the Algebra Exit Exam, please contact the Office of Mathematics at 773-553-6230.   

Schools using ISO-supported or IDS curricula (CME, Agile Mind, or Carnegie Learning) will have access to quarterly assessments that will serve as samples for the types of problems which will appear on the exit exam.

Testing Window    

• May 21, 2011 (Saturday) 
• • Eligible Students: Available to 8th grade, non-CPS or charter school students who are currently enrolled in an Algebra course and who plan to attend a CPS high school in Fall 2011.
  • Location:  Whitney Young High School (211 S. Laflin Street ~ http://wyoung.org/directions.jsp ).
  • Time:  Sign-in begins at 8:00 am, Testing begins at 9:30am and will end at approximately 11:30 am.
  • Results will be mailed to non-CPS students' home address the week of June 13, 2011.
• May 23 - May 27, 2011
• • Eligible Students: Available to CPS students enrolled in an Office of Mathematics approved Algebra course.
  • Location: Exams are administered at the school where the student receives algebra instruction ("testing school"). 
  • Results will be distributed to students at their school the week of June 13, 2011.
• July 29, 2011 (Friday) ~ Retake Only
• • Eligible Students:  Available to incoming 9th grade students who received a score of "Did Not Pass" on the May 2011 Exit Exam as an 8th grader OR  Incoming freshman who did not enroll in the district until after June 2011.
  • Location: Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences (3857 W 111th St - at S. Pulaski)
  • Time:  Sign-in begins at 8:00 am, Standard Testing session 9:30am ~ 11:30.
  • Results will be mailed to students home address' as listed in IMPACT in mid August 2011. 
• June 22 - July 29, 2011 ~ Algebra Refresher Program + Retake
• • Eligible Students:  Available to students who attended a Title 1 CPS elementary school AND received a score of "Did Not Pass" on the May 2011 Exit Exam as a CPS 8th grader.
  • Location:  Various High school locations throughout the city .
  • Retake exam: Will be given at the end of the refresher program at the students' Refresher location on Friday , July 29, 2011.
  • Results will be distributed electronically to students elementary school and projected high school in mid August 2011.
